Notices of Motion Received in Accordance with Procedural Rule No. 12

    In accordance with the Constitution the following two Motions have been submitted.

    MOTION

    The first proposed by Councillor Mrs Barbara Manuel seconded by Councillor D Burt.

    “That this Council

    Noting that in recognition of the eminent services rendered to the community by serving on East Dorset District Council from 1983 to 2015. And during this period, having served on many committees while working tirelessly for the residents of East Dorset and Wimborne in many ways, having also held the position of Chairman of the Dorset County Council from 1993 to 2001.

    Noting also, her involvement over many years with Wimborne Model Town, Dreamboats and pre-school education.

    Aware of the powers granted by the Local Government Acts 1972 et seq to the District Councils to award the title of Honorary Alderman or Alderwoman to those who have given outstanding service to the District Council.

    Resolves therefore in pursuance of these powers and in recognition of her service to the District Council to confer the title of Honorary Alderwoman of the District to Mrs Patricia Hymers.

    MOTION

    The second motion is proposed by Councillor Mrs Barbara Manuel and seconded by Councillor D Morgan.

    “That this Council

    Noting that in recognition of the eminent services rendered to the community by serving on East Dorset District Council, (formerly Wimborne and Cranborne Rural District Council and Wimborne District Council) since1966 representing Ferndown and Corfe Mullen Wards. And during this period having served on many committees and being elected Chairman of the Council for the periods 1977/1979, 2011/12 and 2017/18. He was instrumental in the formation of Moors Valley Country Park, East Dorset Heritage Trust and East Dorset Housing Association

    Noting also, he has worked tirelessly in support of the Wimborne Model Town, the Tivoli theatre, Priest House museum, East Dorset Heritage and the Wimborne Folk Festival

    Aware of the powers granted by the Local Government Acts 1972 et seq to the District Councils to award the title of Honorary Alderman or Alderwoman to those who have given outstanding service to the Council.

    Resolves therefore in pursuance of these powers and in recognition of his service to the District Council to confer the title of Honorary Alderman of the District to Councillor Derek Burt.”

    Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 prescribes that the resolution at Council must be passed by not less than two-thirds of the Members voting at the meeting.

    In accordance with Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 et seq the Council was asked to consider the following two Motions;

    The first proposed by Councillor Mrs Barbara Manuel seconded by Councillor D Burt.

    “That this Council

    The Chairman and Councillors Burt and Burns spoke in support of the motion highlighting the tireless work carried out by Mrs Patricia Hymers.

    Members were advised that Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 prescribed that the resolution at Council must be passed by not less than two-thirds of the Members voting at the meeting.

    RESOLVED that in recognition of her service to East Dorset the title of Honorary Alderman of the District be conferred to Mrs Patricia Hymers with immediate effect.

    Voting: Nem.Con (1 Abstention)

    The Chairman and Councillors Flower, Cook, Harrison, Russell, Shortell spoke in support of the motion highlighting the tireless work carried out by Councillor Derek Burt.
