Matters Arising

In regards to Minute No 205 – Community Safety Report, the Scrutiny Officer would resend to Members the response from the Police following Resolution (a) as some Members stated they had not received it.

In regards to Minute No 207, the Resolution will be going to the meeting of Cabinet on 5th February 2019.

    To provide an update on work being carried out in the area of Strategic Housing as requested by the Committee

    Minutes:

    The Strategic Director submitted a report, a copy of which had been circulated to each Member and a copy of which appears as Appendix 'A' to these Minutes in the Minute Book.

    The Portfolio Holder for Housing provided Members with an update on work being carried out in the area of Strategic Housing leading up to April. He highlighted the amount of work going into the Community Land Trust to ensure it is a legacy item for this Council, the ongoing work to develop St Margaret’s Hill for Affordable Housing, and the purchase of the St Gabriel’s NHS site at Verwood to meet the corporate objective to provide more temporary accommodation.

    Members requested that a position statement be drafted highlighting the Council’s commitment on Hosing, what has been achieved in terms of the housing numbers and affordable housing delivered, how allocated funds have been deployed and the negotiations and relationships had with our partners. The importance of a position statement was noted as a positive handover leaving the house in good order.

    Members also requested updates on the temporary accommodation project in Verwood, any developments at St Margaret’s Hill, and any movement on the funding discussions with Homes England

    RESOLVED that:-

    (a)                the report be noted; and

    (b)               a position statement as at March 2019 be drafted and circulated to Members for approval.

    Members received an Agenda and Minutes for the meeting of the Cabinet Committee (One Year Strategy) held on 18December 2018 meeting, a copy of which had been circulated to each Member and a copy of which appears as Appendix 'C' to these Minutes in the Minute Book.

    The Chairman of the Cabinet Committee (One Year Strategy) addressed Members highlighting the amount of work being done to complete the requests of the Town and Parish Councils. It was reported that all the requests should be delivered in time and the Cabinet Committee will have its final meeting on 14th February 2019. It was further noted that a progress report on the Furzehill site would be brought to this meeting.

    It was agreed that a final One Year Strategy Statement would be prepared and brought back to the next meeting of the Scrutiny and Policy Development Committee.

    Members commended the performance of the Cabinet Committee, in particular the fantastic work done by the officers to complete the work in time.

    RESOLVED that the Agenda and Minutes be noted.
